Who Would You Choose?
For the past two years our director has battled calls that he is not qualified to run the Elmwood Park Public Library, solely because he does not hold a Masters of Library Sciences degree, AND, more recently, he should not command the pay raise provided by the board based on his performance.
The trustees’ goal for the director was to transform the library in many ways- (see the bottom of this link-‘Our Guidance’ (gathered from a FOIA request from 11/21/2022.)
If you had to choose someone to run your business, who would you choose?
Below is the resume of Director Consiglio at time of hire based on the FOIA
Compare that to a recent Director hire by the Rolling Meadows Library (same size community), after a ‘national search’. (We can only show the LinkedIn entry as of 3/9/2025 as a FOIA request did not include the resume at time of hire).
Save our Director- Save Our Library!!!
How much would you pay for these skills? **
Director Consiglio recently received a raise to $90K (for stellar performance), and $25K to act as Business Manager and finance manager for a total of $128K (he doesn’t require medical benefits). This is still well below the $120K avg salary for a Director alone. Over 40 years of experience with no need for a Business Manager nor Assistant Director, Director Consiglio is bringing proven value AND savings to EP tax payers with a staff that’s happy to be working with him.
Yet those seeking to remove the current trustees say the current trustees are fiscally irresponsible. Would you want this mentality managing your tax dollars?
7 roles in 12 years, few proven skillsets in operations, budgeting, personnel management, backed by a philosophy degree and a recently minted MLIS degree, This person makes $174K total comp and benefits!!!! AND their library also must have other roles to make up for this lack of experience (see comparison).
But wait!- For 2025 they are anticipating granting a 9% increase in pay! See the latest from 2025. When was the last time you got a 9% pay increase?
The challengers want to bring this ‘fiscal responsibility’ to Elmwood Park, which means spending more of YOUR money!
